More than Digestion
Our gut is not just for digestion. Our gut health affects the rest of our body.
MOOD - Our gut directly interacts with the brain via the vagus nerve. Through this communication, our gut microbiome (the bacteria living in our gut) can alter our brain’s chemistry and affect our mental health. 70-95% of our total serotonin and almost 50% of our total dopamine are made in the gut. Serotonin and dopamine are neurotransmitters (chemicals in the brain) that affect our mood, cognition, learning, and motivation.
IMMUNITY - 70% of our immune cells are found in the gut and communicate directly with our gut microbiome.
